Grand Trunk Road immediately rings a bell in everyone’s mid as its Asia’s oldest and longest major road.  It runs from Chittagong, Bangladesh, West Bengal (India), Delhi, Amritsar before heading to Peshawar & Kabul.  It then become easy to understand that dishes will be select regions and in this case its Lahore, Chandigarh & DelhiExecutive Chef Lakhbir Singh and his team has curated an amazing selection of dishes in every course of the meal.  To make it very easy for any food lover, they have a separate menu for Veg & Non-Veg.  I am sharing my experience from my recent visit to the restaurant for tasting the dishes.

Ambiance

Nazaara restaurant hosting the food festival is at the 10th level at Courtyard by Marriott.  The name has aptly been kept as one can get the best view of the Bangalore city.

Seating arranges are quite amazing that looks quite exquisite.  There is lighting and tabletop also look amazing.

If one can steps outside the outdoor section, one can see the busy city traffic and the Nagarwara lake.

Just one floor above the Nazaara is the infinity swimming pool that looks amazing.

Food

There are plenty of dishes that one can get to relish as part of the Food Festival.

Amuse Bouche

To start the tasting, Chef serving a finally made dish that had a nice piece of Watermelon with some feta cheese on top.  This was the perfect way to appetize the stomach before the meal.

Kebabs

Tikkiyan rajma ahdiyan, Soya Champ, Bhutteyan da kebab, Lahori tikkey cholli atekhubwali

It’s so hard to pick a favorite but I personally loved the Soya champ served like a lollipop. Also interesting was the Tikki made with rajma as it was quite unique and tasted good.  Lahori tikkey also impressed me quite a bit as it had mushroom & almond bringing in a lot of flavors.

Chaat

Dahi Bhalley

This was no ordinary chaat, as it was fully loaded chat with finely grated pieces of almond & pomegranate.  The chaat was a little on the sweeter side but the presence of slight mint did try and balance the chaat.

Soup

Bhunne bhutte aur lehsun ka sorba

The taste of the shorba was good as it had corn along with garlic & saffron mixed in the perfect proportion.

Main Course

Aloo bukhara kofta, Karai paneer, Maacholiyan di kali dal

This was a section where one can get to savor the special gravy prepared by Chefs.  I loved the Karari paneer so much that I wanted to get the recipe to try at ho me. The paneer cubes were super soft and very well cooked.  The Kali Dal was also tasted very good and it contained Urad Dal & Channa Dal.  Dish tasted very much like the dal we prepare at home but just that it was a notch higher in terms of taste.

Breads

Namkeen parantha, Amritsari kulcha, Tandoori roti

To enjoy a good main course, always a good selection of bread is needed.  And as part of this food festival, one can enjoy some of the finest bread.  The Namkeen parantha had fine pieces of sesame, chilly flake and more, making it so good by itself.  It was so tasty that I referred this to Chef as Indian Pizza. Another bread, I loved was the Amritsari kulcha that had even stuffing of aloo.

Pualo

Channey da pualo

Punjabis are not used to the concept of Biryani as they don’t do the kind of masala that goes into it.  Pulao is the most preferred rice dish and the dish prepared for festival had split chickpeas.  The dish did look simple but was packed with flavor & had nice aroma.

Dessert

Kulfi falooda

A special native ice dessert served with corn flour noodles & sweetened flaky cream that can make anyone forget about diet.  The taste was just awesome and a perfect way to end the meal.

For Non-Vegetarians

There are plenty of options for the Non-Vegetarians in their menu.  To highlight the names of few dishes – Murgh Ka Rassa, Barrah Kebab (lamb), Lahori mutton seekh kebab, Murgh Tikka Kandahari, Amrasari Tali Machli, Meat Beliram and Karahi Murgh.

Final Thoughts

I enjoyed the dishes part of the food festival thoroughly.  If you are read through the entire writeup and check the pictures, I am sure your mouth must be watering.  Personally, I will advise one to go empty stomach to enjoy all dishes.  Thanks to Chef Lakhbir for giving a wonderful dining experience with my family.
