Nutty Squirrel Ice Creams @VR Mall, Bangalore

The city has seen an increase in the number of new ice cream brands.  This is mainly coz of the increase in the population and also the desire in people for trying something unique.  These new brands have now started competing with the older and well established brands in town with some of their unique offering.  One of the recently opened ice-creams places in town is ‘Nutty Squirrel’.  This a place is famous for its Ice Cream Sandwiches and some uniquely flavoured Ice Creams.

 

Background
There were times when we used to know of only a few ice cream brands that the flavours available with them used to be popular.  As the days have gone by people have started liking the idea of tasting different flavours of ice creams.  And from the times when people would prefer a particular brand, now everyone is fine to try any brand as far as quality and taste are good.  The price does not become an issue coz almost every brand has more or less the same price ranges.

 

This brand is started after much thought flow by a group of friends and business partners.  They have researched on the most liked flavours, presentations that are liked by people.  And finally started something totally new one of the malls in Bangalore.

 

Location
It is situated in the quite newly opened VR Mall on the Whitefield road.  To be able to give directions, take the road towards whitefield from KR Puram bridge.  As you keep driving, you will find the Pheonix Market City to the left.  And just before that is the VR Mall.   And the ‘Nutty Squirrel’ is situated on the ground floor level as one of the outlets.

 

Ambiance
This is a small kiosk / stall kind of place that has been specially taken up by the ‘Nutty Squirrel’ team.  Some of the highlights includes.

 

  • There is a section displaying all the flavours of ice-creams for people to choose from.

     

  • Multiple sampling of ice-creams allowed to help choose the flavour you like.

     

  • There is a nice board in the backdrop telling about the various flavours, thick shakes and other details.
  • Cute cartoon around the stall where you can see a squirrel moving up across the buildings.
  • Inside the glass shelf are section where the bases like – cones, cups, waffles are displayed.  It’s for people to choose and pick up the base on which they want the ice-cream scoop to be taken.

 

A pretty looking place which is so relaxed that you can pick up something unique and roam around the mall.

 

Food
This is the most critical part about an ice cream place coz there are somethings unique which I should highlight.

 

  • All ice creams reflect the natural flavours of the ingredients present in the ice cream.  It does not contain any artificial flavours or taste enhancers.  Its 100% natural flavoured ice cream.
  • The ice creams are vegetarian which is quite a strong point about this place.  There are few bases used that have egg content.  You can check across the counter to confirm on the same.
  • Factory of the ice cream place is situated close-by.  And I heard them say that they don’t make more ice-creams.  It is always made in limited quantities.

 

Now, is the time to share more info on the various items that are available in the outlet.

 

Ice Cream Flavours
There are nearly 12 flavours that have been introduced and many more that are being experimented.
Among these my favourites made me feel a wow factor after I took them.

 

 

Chikkoo & Cheddar, Filter Coffee with Choco shavings, Peanut Butter & Banana, Caramel & Hazelnut and Dark Chocolate with Roasted Almond.
 
Among these, only the ‘Caramel & Hazelnut’ is the sweetest of the ice-creams.
I need to specially mentioned about Pudina coz I for sure have not tasted it before.

May be it did not have the sweetness or say the pudina was not that strong, I was a not fan after taking it.  But still I appreciate the effort taken to bring in something different to palette.

 

There are also other flavours which are pretty decent including – Maple Walnut, Salted Pistachio, Strawberry, Pudina, Vanilla Bean, Blueberry, Dark chocolate with brownie.

 

 

You can add various toppings to the ice creams including – Roast almonds, Praline Peanuts, cheeselings, Salted wafers and chocolate.

There are some that are quite commonly available.  But yes they sure to enhance taste.

 

Ice Cream Sandwiches
This is something unique where there is wafer that are made like a hard-tortilla roll.  The actual content is caramel, butter and others.  The ice-cream flavour is put right between.  Each of the big ones are quite heavy.  Flavours that are there includes –

 

Brandy Snap Taco, Mocha Cookies, Brownie Wafer, Snicker Doodle
I have tried 1st and the last one.  Both are really good.

 

 

Mini Ice Cream Sandwiches
These come in different shapes like round, star or heart shaped.  The ice-creams are put right between the cookies that are frozen.  Complete taste come out to be really good.

 

I have tried the following among these and both were good.
  • Snicker Doodle with Vanilla

     

  • Mocha cookie with Peanut Butter & Banana

     

  • Mocha cookie with Filter Coffee

     

 

The portion might look small but is quite heavy.

 

Thick Milk Shakes
This is something that makes the place complete.  And trying to play around with the same flavours, Chocolate Peanut Butter, Mocha Coffee, Go Nutty.

 

 

they have brought in shakes like –

Apart from that you are free to make your own thick shake by combining multiple soups from different flavours.

 

 

There are truly thick shakes, I could just take ¼ portion ofChikkoo + Dark chocolate shake as it just fills your stomach.

 

 

Overall Experience
It was wonderful experience coming to a new ice cream outlet in down.  And trying out some of the flavours are unique.  I am excited to see how it would be having some more new flavours coming from this brand.  This should be a good competition to other brands and yes for that should be expanding.  Hopefully next few months they will have many more outlets.  My current rating for this place is 4.0/5.

Food for 2 will cost anywhere between INR400-800 if you are taking scoop of ice-cream and thick shake.  It might look pricey but it’s worth it.
