Yauatcha Terrace @1 MG Mall, Bangalore

Advertisements
Yauatcha Terrace is one of the latest entrant in the roof-top bar experience.  I think most of us in Bangalore are aware of Yauatcha as being one of the famous places where you get some wonderful dim-sums on 1 MG Mall. Well, time has come to give this experience to people on the rooftop with the addition of plenty of cocktails.  The launch seems to have come at the right time with the people looking to try out something different.

Background
The restaurant has been around since 2004 and it received the critical acclaim for being named as the Top 50 restaurant to visit thus receiving the Michelin star rating which is highly valued in Hotel Industry in Europe.  But we are in the IT capital of the country where there is a mix of young and old who want to get a different experience.  It does not matter in terms of location but all that matter is good food and service.

I am sure that some of the thoughts has prompted Yauatcha to come up with the 1st open air experience with dim-sums and cocktails.  It can currently a 50-seater but I am sure there will be many more pouring in.  There will also be resident DJ who would play some great number against the wonderful Bangalore skyline.

My latest visit to the Yauatcha Terrace came on the day of its launch few days back.  There are 2 other places on the same Terrace but I felt that this one is much more elegant place to be in.

Location
The direction to the 1MG Mall is quite simple.  If you are on the 1 end of MG Road that has the Chinnaswamy stadium.  Drive all the way across to reach the 1 MG Mall which has the Taj Hotel and Hotel Park opposite to.  Take the lift that is close to the exit side of the mall.  The lift on this side take you directly to the 6th floor where Yauatcha Terrace is present.  5th floor will take you to Yauatcha which is the fine-dining restaurant.

Ambiance
There are few things I need to share about this place which is pretty good and nice about this place. It stands out compared to other places.

  • Nice open air around the restaurant.  It is covered only a little behind the bar counter.  But otherwise there is breeze coming from all directions.

  • Wonderful seating arrangement which does not seem to focus on cramping people but letting them relax and enjoy.

  • Large bar counter where people can sit over the bar-counter and have drinks.
  • Small plants grown around the wooden sections with lighting that adds to the ambiance.
  • Large open floor where the DJ console would be coming up.  And in future people might be able to also dance a little.

The place is wonderful as I have described.  But still it is quite hard to put it all in words and will need to be experience in person.
Food
This has always been one of the USP of this place coz the food is quite consistent and tasty.  The day of the launch I did enjoy few of the delicacies that Yauatcha has been famous.

  • Vegetable Crystal Dumplings

  • Vegetable Chiu Chow Dumplings

  • Vegetarian Pooched Perking Dumplings

  • Truffle Edamame Dumpling

These dumpling have been my favourites always.  But the experience of eating the same in an open terrace is quite different.  Apart from this I also tried 1 more dish.

  • Stir-fry black pepper vegetarian chicken

This is basically a dish which is made out of soya and is more like the mock meat.  The taste of it is quite similar to what we get at the Yauatcha.  I enjoyed the taste thoroughly.
Drinks
It is quite essential that I share my thoughts on the drinks menu.  There is a selection of cocktails with unique names which are for sure hard to remember and pronounce.  The only way we can remember is by visiting and trying them multiple time.  Some of the names includes –
  • Lalu
  • Cha La Li
  • Thea Martini

The above mentioned drinks are vodka based.  There is more categorization on the basis of the strength.  They are put under Light/Mild, Rich/Bold sections.  The menu also lists variety of Red Wines, White Wines, Champagnes, Rose Wine, Tequila based drinks, Single Malt drinks and Blended drinks.  I see drinks also in the IMFL category, drinks from various countries like Irish, Japanese, Cuba & Guatemala which are there for selection.  It’s really hard for someone to pick up a drinks if you are not aware of them earlier.  You should check with the bartender to know before ordering.
Apart from the selection of cocktails and hot drinks, there are plenty of non-alcoholic drinks that are brilliant.  I did try a few of them including.

  • Peach Guava Smoothie – Banana, Peach puree, cinnamon syrup, guava, passion fruit juice and odong tea

  • Cucumber and Lime Ice Tea – Cucumber, lime and jasmine tea

  • Tokyo Cooler – Lemongrass, raspberry, guava juice, peach juice and elderflower syrup

  • Orange and Chilli – Orange juice, lemongrass, palm sugar, chilli and mint

There are many more varieties of mocktails which are there for picking.  Lot of effort has been put into making these ingredients work together to form a nice mocktail.  My suggestion would be try some of them along with the cocktails.
Overall Experience
It is always good to see new place come up the blocks.  When it happens to be a place where the food quality is known, it makes you feel good.  My experience of visiting the place along with my friend was wonderful.  I enjoyed some cool breeze of Bangalore in the evening.  Food very much satisfied my palette and so did the drinks.
My rating for this place would be 4.0/5.  I am hoping to see more of action in the coming days as more crowd starts pouring in and when it does it happen; I am sure to visit.

My rating in other departments.
  • Ambiance – 4.0/5
  • Food – 4.0/5
  • Drinks – 3.5/5
  • Service – 4.0/5
