Beer Paired with Indian Food at Canteen

Beer is one of the favourite drinks that probably goes along well with many of Indian Dishes. But we don’t have any place that serves this combination in Bangalore.  The new place ‘The Canteen’ is now opened and has tries to address this issue. Restaurant is located just below Vapour Brewpub in Indiranagar and part of the same group. One can enjoy some of the wonderful beers.

For those of you who are aware of Vapour from a long time will also know about Kebab Studios.  It was a restaurant serving some tasty kebab located at the same place where the current ‘Canteen’ restaurant is present.

The artworks of cars, bikes, posters have not been touched.  View across the traffic and the balcony section of seating has not been changed.

But special care has been taken to transform the seating arrangements to make it look casual.  There are plenty of seating options for letting guests from 1-20 to sit across a table.  I am not exaggerating but they do have a long community table that can seat nearly 15-20 people.

The most important reason one should visit the place is for the dishes that one can relish inside the restaurant.

Per Piece Menu

Galouti Kebab – This was one of the first dishes that I tried and immediately fell in love with it.  Served for a single portion in a small bowl, one can enjoy every bit of the dish.  If you fall in love with the dish like I did, you can ask for another portion.

Tandoori Soya Chaap – Another dish that’s perfect for any vegetarian who wants to get a feel of how the non-veg dishes would taste.  The spices in the dish was just amazing and one can enjoy every bit of the soya in it. For non-veg lovers, it can be surprising as its just like the chicken dish.

Makhmali Kofta – Another amazing dish that instantly rang a bell on taking the first bite I took along with the Onion Kulcha.  The taste of the gravy was just amazing, and I think it’s a must try main course at ‘The Canteen’.

Onion Kulcha – The bread was very well done as it had the right amount of stuffing and very soft from outside.  I would recommend any visiting Canteen to try the bread.

Potli Biryani

Veg Biryani – A special biryani in which the biryani is wrapped in a dough and cooked.  The serving staff come to the table and open the potli.  It’s absolutely amusing to look and tasty for the tongue. The biryani is served with mint chutney and raita.

Gulab Jamun – The best Indian desserts that’s one of the favourites for many Indians.  Dry Jamoon is sprinkled with some almond pieces.  The taste of the dessert is amazing and one of the best desserts to be taken.

Apart from the standard mocktails, its ideal to take the beers from the Vapour Brewery menu.  The best beers to be tried including Stout, IPA, Blonde and new Basmati.

Overall Experience

Its good to see new kind of restaurants like ‘Canteen’ focus on serving Indian snacks along with good beer.  The ambiance of the place is very good and very casual.  It’s a place meant for young and old to have a good time over food & drinks.  They have good options for both Veg and Non-Veg.  The menu has been segregated well to let guests order dish that can consumed by single person or for the entire group.
