Terrace Restaurant in Ashok Nagar – Rocksalt

Advertisements

Rocksalt, one of the finest Terrace Restaurant located in Ashok Nagar locality in Bangalore.  There are plenty of popular restaurants in the vicinity, on the St Marks Road, Lavelle Road & UB City.  One can get food belonging to different cuisines at each of the restaurants.  But Rocksalt focuses on serving dishes from Indian Cuisine.  Special care has been taking to keep up the authentic taste of the dish and people find it very easy to compare.  The ambiance inside the restaurant makes it perfect for fine/casual dining experience.  Let me share my experience from my recent visit to the restaurant.

Ambiance

Tucked away in the most unexpected location on St Marks location, the restaurant has fresh vibe which is very energizing.  Some of the things that one noticed inside the restaurant left me with lasting memories.

  • Lighting arrangements with the trendy lamp-shades looks amazing.
  • There are plenty of Rocksalt kept at various places inside the restaurant.  Each of the rocksalt looks white and has a tinge of red/brown color which looks quite good decorative item.
  • Restaurant has comfortable seating arrangement for 90-100 guests across the restaurant and the bar-counter.  I specially loved the high-rise table located on one side of the restaurant that accommodate 10-15 people.
  • An inhouse DJ plays music, instead of playing the pre-recorded songs inside the restaurant.
  • Highlight of the interiors would be the green plants put up in small pots, left hanging at two of the walls.  The green colors soothes both body (especially eyes) and mind.
  • The restaurant also has a long bar-counter which looks pretty good.  Bartender are well trained to make some wonderful cocktails to delight the customers.

Food

The restaurant serves some of the best Indian food from different regions of India with a slight twist in flavor & presentation.

Starters

There are plenty of options among the Indian snacks.  Some of the dishes I have tried here including – Pani Puri, Dahi Ke Kebab, Baked Vegetable SamosaKhasta Roti Tacos with Amritsari Chole and Dahi Ke Kebab.

The taste of the Pani Puri has been kept intact and its very similar to the street-side Pani Puri that we all love.  All ingredients are added inside Rava based Puri and kept on top of small cup that has jeera water inside.  Its convenient to either pour the water inside the puri and eat it.  If not, one can also put the puri inside the mouth and then drink the water.

Baked Vegetable Samosa had the perfect crispiness and was dipped in a mixture of tamarind, mint & curd.  The samosa had the traditional filling of Potato/Aloo & Peas/Mutter along with spices which gave the authentic taste.

Khasta Roti Tacos with Amritsaari Chole was undoubtedly my favourite dish as the Chole subz tasted amazing.  The taste was enhanced further by adding few drops of lemon.

Dahi Ke Kebab served with mint & tomato chutney was one of the best dish that I loved in this restaurant.  Its got the best taste, texture and softness compared to most restaurants across the city.

The restaurant also served some of the best non-vegetarian starters as well.

Main Course

Kadhai Paneer Moderne and Dal Makhani were the two dishes that I tried.  I especially loved the tomato-based gravy and soft paneer.  The gravy subzi went along very well with the special Olive & Parmesan Naan.

I also enjoyed some Jeera Rice that was served with Raita that had Pomegranate added on top.

Desserts

There are some wonderful desserts on offer in this restaurant.  Some of the amazing dessert I tried including – Caramel Baked Yogurt, Rocksalt Jalebi and Saffron Obattu.

Initially I loved the Rocksalt Jablebi and the next instance I felt that Caramel Baked Yogurt was better.  It’s hard to pick the favourite among them as both were awesome.

The only dessert which I felt needed slight improvement was the Saffront Obattu, as I thought it should been slightly sweeter.

Drinks

I asked the bartender to make an interesting whisky-based cocktails and he obliged by making a warm ‘Flaming Chcoolate & Cinnamon Blazer‘.  This drink had the flavours of cinnamon & dark chocolate written all over it and every sip gave a soothing feeling to throat.

Apart from the cocktails, they also served White Owl beer that’s one of the popular bottled craft beer from Mumbai.

Overall Experience

I enjoyed the dining experience at Rocksalt and felt the authentic taste of every dish .  The presentation on edible stones and wood was amazing.  I am sure that most of the inputs would have come from celebrity Chef Abhijit Saha (restaurant partners), who give equal weightage to food & presentation.  The desserts and cocktails at this place are also good.  I feel that the setup would be perfect for official lunch, hanging out with friends and also for quiet family lunch/dinner.  Looking forward for many more visits to restaurant in future.

My rating for the restaurant dining experience would be 4.0/5.
