The Teal Door Cafe Experience

Advertisements

The Teal Door Café is one of the best cafes I have visited in the recent times.  Café has many interesting things which are different compared to any other place in town.  To start-off the name ‘The Teal Door Café’ can be split into 3 parts – The Teal, Door and Café.  First two words signifies the color inspired from ocean & the bird itself.  Second word ‘door’ signifies the fact that they encourage woman entrepreneurs.  The interiors at this place is quite unique in every floor and the folks who designed it have taken time to get it all right.  Lastly and the most important aspect is the food which tasted quite good and presented very well.  Let me share my experience.

Ambiance

The entrance of the café has the nicely written board with the name that is quite appealing.  As an outsider, we can see that the grills in the balcony have the special chain, wheels, cranks and other items which are usually found in car-repair garages.

  • The section to the right of entrance has unique collection of hand-made clay household and decorative items.  Each of the items are created by lady entrepreneurs from Auroville at Pondicherry.
  • First floor has a unique collection of posters on the roof that have been personally selected.  It is also a section where there are some wonderful lighting arrangement making it quite popular section to hang-out.
  • Second floor is the ‘Lazy Sofa’ section where anyone can just sit and unwind.  There are plenty of books and board games that people can engage for long periods.  There are some high tables for people to sit and overlook the nature outside.
  • The top floor has got a large open space where they do have – Date Night, Karaoke Night, Stand-up comedy, Dark games and other events. The section is also quite popular for hosting Private Parties.

Every floor is based on a different theme that make the customer come back again and again to explore something unique about the place.

Food

This is another very important reason why people will always want to come back to this café.  The restaurant has roped in one of the experience Chef, who works as part of Executive Chef staff Movenpick.  Entire menu and presentation has been designed under his watchful guidance.

The names of the dishes have been kept by referencing some of the local slangs.  Some of the names can make anyone laugh like – Nim Ajji Bajji, Infected Shrooms, Nam-Amman Biryani.

Another unique thing that I noticed in the menu was the usage of symbols to distinguish food like – Vegetarian, Chefs Special and Hot-handle.

Cocktail Mini-Idli Platter – This platter comes with an assortment of min-idlis with different toppings of chutney powders.  The idlis are quite soft and the chutney powder topping are also quite good.  This is one of the items I specially recommend at this place.

Panniyaram Platter – A specially made dumpling fried in moulds with ghee and served along with chutneys.  Taste of every Panniyaram / Paddu / Gunpungala was just awesome.  It is hard to resist after taking one piece of the Panniyaram.  This surely is the best Panniyaram I have eaten in long time.

Mini Dosa Platter – Assorted dosa served with chutney.  Dosa varieties served were – Vegetable Uttapam, Set dosa and Dosa with masala combination.  Some of the accompaniments include – Tomato Chutney, Coconut Chutney and Sambar.

Patchakal Stew – Kerala style stew serve with two soft Appams.  The Appams were crispy from outside and the combination along with stew was just perfect snack that can be taken at any time of day.

Drinks

There are plenty of options in this section and each of them have different names.  Since I went there with 3 foodie friends, we tried multiple drinks.

Fully Loaded – Coffee, brownie kitkat, peanut butter, Nutella based drink that was simply awesome.  Nutella flavour along with coffee and Kit Kat piece on top of the cream, was too delicious.

Cleanser – Drink that contains Watermelon, Pomegranate, rose and mint.  The taste was awesome and I just loved it.

Glow – A drink that contains Muskmelon, Sweet lime, chai seeds along with Lemon grass.  This drink is meant for all those who like to Cleanse & Detoxify, surely not one of my favourites.

Masala Chai or Adrak Chai – This special tea is served in Khullad is quite refreshing.

Homestyle kaddak cutting chai – Many of us are used to have the cutting chai at the small shops where it is served on special cutting chai glasses.  This chai specially meant for those who are in love with chai served in the glass.

Overall Experience

I had a great time visiting one of the most unique cafes in Bangalore.  The ambiance is quite colourful and vibrant which will make anyone feel cosy.  Food and drinks are also quite good which is will make customers try all items on the menu.  This café is one of the very few places that is pet-friendly. I also found the service staff to be quite friendly and quick in service.  The only aspect I would want a change in the café would be the price factor which can be 10-20% lesser so it become a little more pocket friendly.

I rate my current experience at 4.0/5.
