ATB – Absolute Telugu BIryani @Koramangala, Bangalore

This is one of the restaurants in Koramangala that specializes in food from Andhra Cuisine.  The moment we talk about the Andhra Cuisine, the few things that cross my mind are Spicy, Biryani and Meals.  I always hoped that the taste and flavours from Andhra can be felt.  And this is exactly what I got from ATB, which has the right mix of spices and tastes is uncompromised.  I think it has been nearly 1 year since it came in Koramangala area and it’s been doing good for itself.

Background
Andhra or Hyderabad style biryanis have always known to us.  But then I never heard for ‘Kuchipudi’, which is in the title of the adjoining restaurant ‘7 Biryanis by Kuchipudi’.  Both the restaurant shares the same kitchen and hotel.  One section of the ATB has been setup for ‘7 Biryanis’.

This restaurant has come in place of the earlier North Indian restaurant named ‘Elegant Elephant’.  But then the food that is served here is South Indian and that too Andhra style.  This I feel is one of the favoured cuisines among people when you want to eat a wholesome meal.  And Biryani for sure is one of the favoured meals.
With the above thoughts in mind, I don’t think that the owners would have hesitated coming up with the restaurant in Koramangala area.  Infact, they would not have thought about the possible competition as well coz there are plenty of people coming to the area, just to have food.

Location
It is quite critical that for a place serving a public favourite food, the location is prime.  To give directions from Inner Ring Road side, I will start from Eijipura Signal that comes while travelling from Indranagar.  Cross the signal to drive across to the Sony World Signal.  For reference Oasis mall having Lifestyle can be seen to the left side.  And then at the signal, take left turn.  Look for the building on the right that has ‘Reliance Jewellers’.  The ATB is located on the top floor of the building.
If you are coming from St John side, drive along until you cross the Koramangala BDA complex to the right side.  Drive along until you hit the Sony World signal that has ‘Wild Craft’ showroom to the right side.  You need to take right turn but there isn’t any.  So, take the left, then a U-turn, drive across from left to right side.  Then you hit upon the same road that has ‘Reliance Jewellers’ and the directions are same as mentioned in earlier para.

Ambiance
This is one of the critical reasons why folks would come to restaurant apart from the cuisine.  Let me share some insight into the ambiance.
  • The most important thing about a restaurant like this is the car parking, since it is located just before Sony World signal.  There is ample space in the basement to keep the cars.  If not, valet parking is available.
  • Entrance is pretty good and has the traditional touch with all the Rangolis put up on the wall.
  • There board of 7 Biryanis with the chilli piece above the name at the entrance.
  • The tables have the Rangoli done it gives a very different look.  I don’t remember any restaurant having invested effort in coming up with this kind of interiors.
  • Chairs used are more of the cane which is also quite good.
  • There are various paintings that seems to be quite appreciative of the farmers.  It gives a feel like you are in pleasant atmosphere away from the hush-bush of city.  But yes, the sound of traffic well immediately remind that you are in the centre of city.
  • Posters of dancers showing off some of the Kathakali and Bharatanatyam steps are present.
  • The best part of the restaurant is that they have all the letters of Telugu and also Kannada alphabets.  And each of them are written with different colours.
  • Centre of attraction at ATB is the Fountain in the centre that has also some fishes.  It’s a place where kids love to spend time.
  • The walkway also has special wooden slabs that are painted with dark colours.  Pillars have traditional yellow colours with red lines, these are things that we see at houses.
  • Behind the fountain is the section where the entire buffet spread is put up.
The complete setup is quite exquisite and anyone would love to have food.  Reasons are quite simple coz the ambiance would remind of our house exteriors and the food might taste like home-made.
Food
I have given quite a bit of info about the restaurant until now.  It is time to write more on the food that is available here.  And I must say that they have a wide variety of items that are part of their menu.  Let me share thoughts on the food that I had recently.
Soup
There have options for veg and non-veg.  But then during a recent event, I ended up taking the ‘Rasam’ which for sure is a great item to be taken instead of Rasam.  It is more like the ‘Tomato Shorba’.
Starters
This something that keeps people quite engaged and also at time let’s forget about the wonderful items in store for the main course.

Gobi Manchurian
An all-time favourite among many of us which includes kids of elders.  The Gobi was pretty well cooked and the masalas added were tasty.  The starter itself was quite well done, nicely cooked.  It also means a great start to the meal after the soup.

Veg Cheese Balls
This is a starter that is a must try at this place coz it has the fried part from outside giving the ball effect and of course the cheese right inside which tastes great.  Kids just love this kind of flavours and I think they have done a great job with the dish at ATB.  If at you are trying to setup an event or event take back food, this is a starter that is a must takeaway.
Curries
Paneer Butter Masala
The most standard and favourite among vegetarians.

Taste was quite awesome and I loved the gravy along with the tandoori roti.  And I need to also mention that there was no floating oil or butter on the top layer, presentation also was quite good.

Mix Veg Gravy
This happens to be one of my favourite dishes for simple reasons that the flavour of multiple veggies works well.  The gravy added into its needs to good but on an average this is one dish I have loved at many place.  Taste of this curry has come out quite well.
South Specialities
These are few items which comes by default in the buffet which are specially included.

3G Rice (Gongura Special)
It is the special rice bath is available here which I have not heard much being available elsewhere.  The taste is quite good but somehow it does not have the everlasting flavours that we have come to love about biryanis.

Pappu (DAL)
This is the traditional daal that is prepared in Andhra region.  Every meal will have a portion of daal that would be served with the plain rice.  And the daal is very critical coz many folks consume more portion of it.  Pappu here was quite tasty and I loved every bit of it.  I loved it so much that I also had an extra bowl only of the DAAL.

Curd Rice
Another critical rice item that I feel gives me a contentment of having had a great meal.  The Curd rice made here is wonderful.  I think they use the thick curd to make it.

The ingredient added inside it included Apple, Pomegranate and Grapes.  The last 2 items are quite known to all of us.  But the addition of apple surprised me and it tasted quite good.
Apart from this paapad, pickle, salads are always there to be taken with the buffet.

Drinks
Rajamundry Rose Milk
I have always loved the idea of taking Rose milk.  And at ATB, they make it even special but adding some dry-fruits as well.  They don’t serve it super chilled or super sweet, it’s quite optimum.

Deserts
Jamoon
The size of the Jamoon that we get here is quite big and taste is quite good.  I think the Jamoon is made out of ‘Cova’ or hardened milk, the flavours come out quite well.  There is no hardening in the centre.  You can take ice-cream along with the Jamoon and it tastes even better.
Overall Experience
This for sure is one of my favourite restaurant in Koramangala area.  The owner and the staff at the place are quite down to earth and well behaved.  Coming here always give a pacifying feeling with the ambiance that has been setup.  I would rate this place at 4.0/5 and I know that it has all the potential to be among the best in Bangalore.  I am hoping to taste more of their food in future.
My rating in other departments.
