Onam Sadhya Meal | Home Chef | Sobha City
Onam is right around the corner and instead of stepping out for having the traditional Sadhya. This year that’s already filled with plenty of surprises had another surprise in store, the Sadhya came to my home. Thanks to a wonderful home chef living in the same Sobha City apartment complex, Shaheen.
About Home Chef
During the lockdown, many of us have discovered that that home food can be much better than eating outside. The food is tasty and also very good healthwise. There are many who have honed their cooking skills and have also become self-proclaimed Masterchef. They not only cook but also present it like any fine-dine restaurant.
But there is always been one set of people who love to cook and serve a limited set of people. This category of people has the desire to experiment and thrive in building a relationship with the customers.
I stay in a community that has nearly 2000 apartment and this means that there are plenty of expert Chefs. One such person is Shaheen, who makes wonderful Salads, Desserts, Sadhya, Haleem, and many more.
A typical Onam Sadhya meal has 20+ Vegetarian dishes that ranges from starters, main course & desserts. But typically when we talk about traditional meals, we don’t talk about the technical terms.
Making a meal with 20+ dishes required a lot of planning and perfect execution. Its about ensuring that every dish comes out good.
For this Onam season in 2020, Chef Shaheen has come up with 23 dishes that are all home-made.
- Palada Payasam
- Cheruparippu Payasam
- Shakkara Varatti
- Beetroot Pachadi
- Pineapple Pachadi
- Cabbage Thoran
- Puli Inji
- Matta Rice
- Banana chips
- Naranga Achar
- Banana leaf
The taste of every dish was just amazing and the portion size was just perfect. Infact, when we get home-delivery we don’t realize that content is more to ensure that it averages out. I thought that the portion size I ate could have been easily shared among 2 people, with slight compromises (laughing).
This extremely talented Chef has been cooking multiple dishes for a couple of years. She has honed her skill over the years and become an expert in the dishes. Some of the other items that she has been doing include Salads, Desserts, Haleem & more.
It’s a little hard to manage cooking being a Home Chef, especially to manage ingredients & quantity. To prevent that from happening, she takes order 1 week in advance. Delivery of food is done by Swiggy, Swiggy Gennie, or Dunzo.
For the last week of August’20, the slots of Onam Sadhya are completely booked. I am looking forward to trying more of her dishes from next week.
