Royal Flavours of Rajasthan at Courtyard, Hebbal
An established hotel always some of the best restaurant and both inhouse & outside guests dine-in. I think the Hebbal Café at Courtyard Marriott has all the ingredients that makes it a great place to visit. It’s got good ambiance, best team of Chefs and great location opposite Nagawara lake. I recently visited the restaurant to taste the dishes part of Rajasthan Food Festival.
Rajasthan Food Festival
A special Rajasthani Food Festival is on at The Hebbal Cafe restaurant. To get the authentic Rajasthani flavours, some of the ingredients like Ker Sanger, Spices, Ghee have been brought from Rajasthan.
Chef Lakshmi Naryan from The Westin Pushkar Resort & Spa has curated the dishes along with one of my favourite in Bangalore Chef Lakhbir Singh Chahal.
Ambiance
It’s nice to see the way restaurants are decked around the theme of the food festival. As we know Rajasthan to be colourful place with vibrant colors, a beautiful setup was done at the entrance.
There were many small artworks of lanterns, dancing ladies and typical Rajasthani people in general. The buffet section was all decked and it looks like a fun place to dine in.
Food
Its critical that a restaurant bring in special Chefs whenever they have food-festival. In this case, they brought Chef Lakshman from Westin, Pushkar Rajasthan to curate a special menu for the guests.
Thanda
Bajre Ki Raab – A special drink that is based on millet that tasted good.
Kanta Lupe Cooler – Muskmelon based cooler that had some Vanilla flavor was one of the drink served to beat the summer heat.
Pomegranate Cooler – This was another special cooler that was served before the start of sumptuous Rajasthani meal.
Shuruaat
Khasta Kachori, Peethiwali Tikki, Shekhawati Dai Vada
All the 3 dishes I tasted were amazing but my favorite among the 3 was the Kachori. The first 2 dishes were served on a plate that had beetroot chutney which tasted awesome.
Dahi Vada tasted different compared to the South Indian snack as it was filled with Cashew. The dish seemed to be quite heavy but was very much a Rajasthani dish.
Main Course
Those were just the starters, what followed next was a blast of flavors in variety of dishes put together as part of the thali.
Shekhawati Ker Sanger, Jodhpuri Bharwan Gatte, Paneer Mircha, Pithod Ki Subzi, Gavar Phalli & Gatte ka Pulao
Makai Roti (Corn Roti) and Phulka were served along with the dishes. It is the perfect way to relish the flavors of the individual dishes. Among the dishes, with a doubt the Ker Sanger was my favourite as it a special dish from Rajasthan. I also loved the Bharwan Gatte as it was not too heavy and portion size was perfect. Pithod Ki Subzi is like the ‘Chaulikai Subzi’ that’s famous in Bangalore and it tasted good.
Non- veg lovers can get to taste the Lal Maas that’s popular in Rajasthan.
Daal Baati Churma is one of the dishes that we have eaten along with any Rajasthani Thali. In here, the Chef comes to individual table and makes the dish in front of guests, serves it. One can see the ‘Baati’ being picked up a container filled with ghee. You can imagine how tasty it would be.
Desserts
To end the meal, something special was needed in desserts. There was not just one but two tasty desserts, perfectly plated.
Makai Ghewse, Malpua with Rabrhi
Final Thoughts
I was great fun visiting the café and enjoy the dishes as part of the Rajasthani Food Festival. Though I have visited the place in the past but never got an opportunity to share my views. But I think it’s right time for me share a feedback with the ongoing food festival. I am in admiration of Chefs in the hotel and feel that they are very good and extremely talented. Hoping to visit the place soon again.
