Singapore Food Festival at Shiro
Shiro is one of the most popular restaurants that serve the best of Japanese, Balinese and Chinese food. Chef Priyank Singh Chouhan has been the key person curating some of the amazing dishes. The place has hosted many popular food festivals inspired by popular cuisines from South Asian countries. Recently, Chef had hosted a special event for making Sushi that has never been done before.
This month Shiro has started the special ‘Taste of Singapore – Explore the culinary culture of the lion city‘ from 8-Aug’19. This day is celebrated popularly as National Day of Singapore. Chef has curated special dishes part of Soup, Appetizers and Main Course. I was invited for a special tasting session to try out the dishes.
Ambiance
The place has a grandeur look, thanks to the high roof that stretches nearly 30-40 off the group.
Interior of the place are amazing and can easily mesmerize transport anyone to a forbidden peaceful land.
Huge sculpture of a person that resembles like a dancer or even Lord Buddha can be seen. There are sculptures that resemble ladies standing as guard at the entrance pouring water.
Seating arrangements looks amazing and very spacious. They have both an indoor and outdoor section.
Food Festival
There are plenty of dishes curated by Chef for various course of meal.
Soup
Wonton Soup with Noodles (v), Laksa Soup (nv)
The veg soup had the perfectly flavored vegetable broth that has a selection of vegetables like Mushroom, Broccoli. Soup tasted very good, very light on stomach and something, I would love to have any time of day.
The non-veg soup also looked quite tempting as it had broth made of mildly spiced coconut served with tofu.
Appetizers
Vegetarian – Potsticker Dumpling, Tofu in chilli sambal, Stir Fried Vegetables with cashew
Ever appetizer had something unique and tasted very good. The Dumpling had the nice filling of mushroom that had a milky flavor inside as it was simmered in coconut milk.
The sambal sauce is something that we all know is very famous and it was does perfectly. I also loved the Stir-fried vegetables had the vegetables tossed with in hoisin, oyster and soy.
The dish was so taste as it was slightly sweet, a little creamy that went along very well with stir fried veggies.
Non-Vegetarian – Chilli seafood puff, Singapore style chicken satay, Cashew chicken BBQ Sambal Fish
From my discussion with Chef, it was clear that every dish was made by adding the ingredients in right proportions.
The puff had a combination of crab stick, crab meat & Prawn. The other appetizers were based on chicken and fish looked great. My fellow blogger loved it and heaped praises for the dishes.
Main Course
Vegetarian – Singapore curry with tofu, Aromatic green curry, Stir Fry Laksa Noodles with Tofu
I choose to eat the Laksa noodles (rice noodles) that had the light curry broth with bean sprouts and vegetables. The noodles were soft, smooth and perfect balanced with spices, making every bite tasty.
This is a must try dish at Shiro part of the Food Festival. I am hoping to try the other dishes during my next visit.
Non-Vegetarian – Singapore Chilli Crab, Black pepper lobster, Hainanese Chicken rice, Singapore Chicken curry
The appetizers are very filling but there are plenty of options in the main course as well. Specifically, the Hainanese Chicken rice is a dish one should be trying.
It had the poached chicken that’s perfectly served with sweet soy, sesame oil & chilli dip. The presentation was just amazing, and I am sure anyone will enjoy eating it.
Overall Experience
There are plenty of dishes from Singapore Cuisine as part of the food festival. I relished all the dishes that I had during my tasting session and it’s hard to pick a personal favorite. This food festival gave me an idea of the variety in the Singapore cuisines. I personally recommend everyone to ask for the special Singapore Food Fetival menu and try them until 15th Sep’19. Thanks to Chef Priyank and his team for wonderful hospitality like always. I look forward more visits to Shiro in future.
