IIHM Bangalore | Karnataka Food Festival

IIHM, International Institute of Hotel Management Bangalore hosted Karnataka Food Festival yesterday at their campus.  A special food festival to celebrate the World Tourism Day, 27th Sep 2019. Students at IIHM in collaboration with Indian Tourism Karnataka, Ministry of Tourism, Govt of India, have come up with a special food festival. The festival is named ‘Namma Ooru Namma Ahar‘ that translates to ‘Our City Our Food’.

The event was attended by Mohamed Farouk, Director, Ministry of Tourism, Government of India and Prakash Mandoth, EC Member, Karnataka Tourism Society.

Variety of Dishes

The students have researched and identified multiple dishes from across the state. I was delighted to be part of the event and relished the dishes.

Starters – Masala Puri, Sev Puri, Nipattu

Snacks – Paddu with 2 chutneys (Tomato & Coconut), Ragi Dosa (millets)

Main Course – Ragi Mudde, Sambar, Urlikayi/Beans Palya/Subzi, Badnekayi Yengai (Bringol Dish), Akki Rotti (with Dill Leaves), Bisi Bele Bath

NonVeg – Mangalore styed fish, Chicken Saaru & few more chicken based dishes

Desserts – Mysore Pak & Kesari Bath

The best part of the entire experience was that every dish tasted amazing. Few for sure were my favorite and the top one was Badnekayi Yengai as the Brinjol was very well cooked well, ground nut-based gravy was tasty. Mudde was another dish, I thought was well done like what we are used to eating at home. This dish takes some effort to make it needs to be consistent. Mysore Pak was another dish/dessert that I thought was done exceptionally well by the students. It was soft and melted in my mouth on putting it.

Kudos to the effort of the students for making these amazing dishes that depicted every region of Karnataka very well. I also came to know apart from IIHM Bangalore, similar event happened across IIHMs. They individually identified the dishes popular in the region.

Varieties of Drinks

Drinks – Buttermilk with minced curry leaves (Vidhana Soudha), Water-melon cooler (Lalbagh) & Gulkhand based mocktail (Cubbon Park)

The names given to every mocktail was very good. I liked the idea of naming drink after iconic places across Bangalore/Karantaka.
