Hoppipola – A Great place to hangout on Church Street

Hoppipola, one of the popular pubs in Bangalore belongs to Speciality Restaurant Group which owns > 100 restaurant across India and Globally.  The group came up with its flagship hotel Mainland China and Oh! Calcutta way back in 1994.  Since then they have added many new brands like – Asia Kitchen, Sigree Global Grill, Café Mezzuna, Mobifeast and more.  Most of the brands have multiple outlets in the city and across the globe.  Hoppipola, another brand has 3 outlets in Bangalore City and located in 6 other cities across India.  Let me share my experience from my recent visit to the Church Street outlet.

Ambiance

  • Restobar/Lounge-bar, located on the 1st floor of the building that has Mainland China in the ground level.
  • They have comfortable seating arrangement for casual dining experience.  Nothing seems to be over the top at this place.
  • Inhouse DJ standing at one side of the bar-counter plays some great music tracks and keeps the guests entertained.
  • Restobar also has a huge bar counter that can be seen every place inside.

Drinks

Cocktails

The speciality of Hoppipola would most definitely be the cocktails.  They have some wonderful cocktails with different flavours that can suit different palates.  Some of the popular cocktails –

  • Hoppi Bathtub (White Rum+ basil + orange +beer: Cleanse your sins)IMG_20180603_185647
  • Hop Cycle (Tequila + Vodka + Nutella + Marshmallow: A sweet ride)IMG_20180603_194817
  • Café Neto (Vodka + Nutella + Coffee: For the Con’E’ artist)IMG_20180603_185833
  • IQ (Vodka + Watermelon + Passion fruit + Cranberry: Edison’s Favourite)IMG_20180603_185520
  • 100% ChaGin (Sparkling wine + Vodka + kiwi)IMG_20180603_193321

Among the cocktails, I specially loved two – IQ and Café Neto.  IQ contains water-melon & passion fruit which negates the alcohol flavours and makes it enjoyable.  Café Neto, another drink that has ingredients like Nutella, Coffee which gives it a unique flavour.

I loved the idea behind Hoppi Bathtub which has inverted Kingfisher bottle and can be shared by a group of people.  They have multiple draw which people use for sipping.IMG_20180603_191956

Mocktails

Some of the mocktails at this place include – Wingardium Leviosa, Curried Apples, Forbidden Punch, Shelled Apples, Nutty Fruity.  I specially loved the Forbidden Punch the most.IMG_20180603_201114

Food

Apart from the drinks, there are some great dishes that can be taken along with drink.IMG_20180603_185453

Starters

Time Pass Platter, Quesadilla Tower

Among the starters, I loved the idea behind ‘Time Pass Platter’ which had 3 different chats served on plate with multiple sections.  The taste of the dishes was amazing, and I specially loved the idea behind the ‘Time Pass Platter’.IMG_20180603_185850

Pizza

Mac n Cheese Pizza & Paneer Tikka Pizza

The Mac & Cheese Pizza was very yummy due to presence of excess Cheese and tasty base.IMG_20180603_193850

I also loved the Paneer Tikka Pizza as it was slightly spicy and good number of paneer pieces were added on toppings.IMG_20180603_195235

Main Course

Peri Peri Biryani, Paneer Chettinad along with Rice

The paneer-based dish presentation was unique as it came in a lunch-career with 2 boxes.  First box contains the Paneer Gravy subzi and second one contained plain rice.  The taste of the gravy subzi was good and there were no traces of oil which can be found at many of the eateries.

Peri Peri Biryani came with spicy masala, paneer and other veggies.  I would have loved it more if the spice level was a little lesser.

I have shared info regarding Vegetarian dishes but there are plenty of options for non-vegetarians.  Oldmonk Chicken Wings, Sizzling Chicken Sukka, Southern Crispy Prawn, Smoke Sausage Pizza, Grilled stuffed Chicken with mash, Peri Peri Biryani Chicken.

Overall Experience

I had a great time trying out some of the dishes along with drinks at Hoppipola.  Some of my favourite are already mentioned in the earlier sections.  I would recommend this place for anyone looking to grab a good drink along with food while crossing the Church Street or MG Road area.  The place has potential to become party-goers paradise if they can work on decking up the interiors and presenting cocktails uniquely.  I would also love to see some molecular gastronomy being introduced while making some of the cocktails.

I rate my current experience at 4.0/5.  Rating in other departments.
